Rethinking Design Objects in Sex: Dialogue and Skin
Vilnius Academy of Arts
Associate prof. Mantas Lesauskas
This research invites designers to rethink how they view sex – not merely as an act of pleasure or reproduction but as an act of communication and a means of forging societal bonds. It challenges the conventional notion that genitals are the primary sex organs, proposing instead that the skin, encompassing the genitals but not limited to them, plays a crucial role in sexual activity.
What if sex furniture were designed not out of passion but as auxiliary items based on the aesthetics of the skin? Could such an approach help normalise sex and make it more accessible to everyone? What kinds of items might a designer create with this perspective in mind?
