Goda Gontytė studied design, for some time also at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Gontytė is an interdisciplinary artist who has been working in fashion and advertising industry for the last ten years. She says her inspiration comes from her work at three different cities – Vilnius, Copenhagen and Amsterdam. This multilayered experience is reflected in her work, which is always dominated by a certain idea and its communication.
According to Gontytė, curiosity is the biggest asset a creator could have, as well as raising new questions and trying to find answers to them. „Before starting the project, whatever it is, you can never know what the result is going to be like. This passion to find out is the biggest inspiration to me. The process of creation, I think is about collaboration, dialogue of different genres – that's why design as an occupation to me is a never ending discussion among individuals each carrying different experiences“,– says Gontytė.
„In fashion, dialogue of different forms of art is especially visible. Through the things we own, we communicate what we are, where do we live, what people we look upon, what is our opinion on ecology or equal opportunities. When selecting things important to us, we create our environment as well.“
At the moment Gontytė spends most of her time working with art projects. One of them is „Elasticities“, dedicated to different cities.
