Exploring Spatial Fears: The Case of the Museum

Vilnius Academy of Arts
Associate prof. Laura Malcaitė

This project delves into anxiety and fears in medicine identified as phobias. The lack of recommended guidelines addressing spatial and emotional parameters and the difficulty of adapting spaces for people experiencing spatial anxiety have led to the aim to discover ways to address the problem through design and technology. Research examines AR (augmented reality) as a tool to facilitate engagement and adaptation in spaces. The National Gallery of Art was chosen as a case study. A spatial filtering system was designed to simulate a sense of security without distracting the user from experiencing the real environment, creating a gradual transition into reality.
