Womenswear Collection “Packaging a Woman: Creating Images of Female Beauty Stereotypes and Self-Expression in Fashion Design”

The fashion design project “Packaging a Woman” explores stereotypes surrounding female beauty and the freedom of self-expression when one is facing them. How can imagery of the female body be used in creative work when it carries such complex social undertones? When does it not seem to belong to women themselves? The project seeks to fuse alternative expressions and the established societal standards of female beauty by finding an unconventional perspective – the body as a metaphorical form of packaging, a box containing a woman’s soul, enabling her to act in the physical world, while simultaneously restricting her in the social world.
